Wow. I’ve been an absentee landlord the past couple months. I guess I feel like I haven’t been doing much in the way of shareable stuff. Lately though, I’ve decided I need to make a concerted push with branding myself. If I’m going to take the freelance thing seriously I should show what I can do with my materials. Below is an iPhonesque icon I made simply to show I can.

The next is an invoice.

Aside from my business card, there probably wouldn’t be anything else that is given directly to a client. There’s always the web page I guess. For that, there are plans for masonhastie.com to resolve somewhere else rather than back here.
Last month I also worked on a remix for a friend of mine in Tokyo. I’ve only sent it to him and one other person, so I guess this is the debut.
Feel free to criticize any of this crap in the comments.

Recently I’ve fallen in love with the website Grooveshark. Essentially it’s the worlds biggest shared iTunes library. If you just go to the website you can pretty much listen to any song you might want. If you make an account, you can create playlists and mark songs as ♥ed.
I asked people on Twitter,
“If you had to make me listen to one song, what would it be? I’m making a #grooveshark playlist.”
I was pretty dogmatic about only letting one song per person in, I didn’t want any one person to influence it more than another. The resulting playlist which is, unfortunately, a little shorter than I’d hoped, actually turned out quite listenable.

I’m now posting iPhone pictures on my Tumblr account. I’ve started using Photo FX and Cool FX by the amazing Tiffen to edit my on-the-go photos; and I’ve been liking the results. If you want to stay updated, follow my Tumblr, Twitter, or check the Tumblr sidebar on the main page.

At the urging of Craig Hockenberry I’ve sent Apple a (hasty and sloppily written) letter telling them how displeased I am that I can use a program that allows me to see “offensive content”
I am concerned with the irresponsibility that Apple has shown in bundling a program that is obviously capable of delivering pornographic and dangerous content. Of course I am talking about the Safari web browser. It’s unfortunate that you are obviously overlooking your own faults, while diligently protecting our fragile sensibilities on the front created by third party apps and awful programs like Eucalyptus and the Nine Inch Nails applications. I can’t even delete Safari if I tried!
Also at fault is your Mail program. Did you know that there are people sending UNSOLICITED EMAILS, telling me they want to enlarge my “manhood”? And young ladies that want to engage in sexual intercourse with me “right now”? Disgraceful that you allow such miscreants to infringe on my right to a squeaky clean iPhone experience.
I expect a prompt and biblical response to this seemingly unending parade of filth.
I await their response.

What a dreary day. Perfect for listening to Dark Night of the Soul,
the doomed David Lynch/Sparklehorse and friends project.

I bought myself a copy of Delicious Library because (a) I found myself not remembering what I had and what I had got rid of and (b) it was ten dollars off today. Delicious Library is the best way to get all this crap into a database because it lets you just scan the barcode with the iSight camera and it automagically gets the info and cover art. Version 2.0 is way better than the first one because it gets imported stuff better (it even got most of my Japanese CDs!) and the barcode recognition is much improved. And I guess I figured I needed to help Shipley buy ANOTHER Tesla. Good god. If I think that my money is going to @curvyboom and @majah‘s paycheques, I’ll feel better about it.
So, why do you care, dear friend? Not sure. But if you do, you can check out all my stuff at:

Last week I got my gorgeous new business cards from Lucky Duck Letterpress. Easiest way to order is through Etsy. I was very picky about how things were done with them, and I have to tell you, they were accommodating and helpful. These things were done on a old-style letterpress, using hot type. A little pricey, but worth it.
Now you got my number. Gimmie a call. Read the rest of this entry »
You said.
