Scrabulous.

kicking my ass around the board

I am so digging the Facebook app, Scrabulous. I love a good game of Scrabble, and being able to play a casual game over a few hours, or days really appeals to me. What also appeals to me is sitting and playing a game non-stop, not having to refresh the board or my “notifications” over and over just to see if it’s my turn yet.

The same people that made the Facebook app also have a website at Scrabulous.com. There people can play Scrabble in real time. Unfortunately I don’t think any of my friends are on that site, so I end up playing with grumpy old men and ten year old girls. The games are pleasant enough, but I am more interested in playing with my friends. So if any of you are interested, drop me a line.

Of course, the offer is always open for you to come down to my place if you are able. I do have a board.

Flickr nrd.

This photo made it to Explore on Flickr, which is pretty cool I think. Go on and click on the photo so I can get more views and maybe keep it in there for a bit longer. ;)

Here is a link to see my “Flickr DNA” on the Big Huge Labs website, which tells me if my photos are in Explore.

Also, I have a set that keeps track of my most “interesting” photos according to some sort of algorithm. Read the rest of this entry »

A little close to home.

Ugh… I live this shirt. If you don’t, well, you’re lucky I guess. Although I do have a soft spot for funny Venn diagrams, I don’t think I will be buying it. Anyway, it’s good for a chuckle.

UPDATE: Speaking of “close to home”:

But Paper Magazine is not writing about me.

Mainstream-O-Meter.

I guess the purpose of the Mainstream-O-Meter is to see how obscure your musical taste is. Of course, it only measures you against other users of Last.fm. Therefore, it’s how far your musical tastes deviate from internet/music geeks.

Click on it to make it readable.

Typewriter Erotica.

The 1920′s trend of sultry ladies, posing with typewriters might seem a little weird to some, but they have an obvious modern parallel (NSFW) that, in context, at least makes a little sense. Doesn’t it?

Trying Out Flock

Flock — The web browser for you and your friends

This is a test post to try out some of the features in Flock, a crazy new web browser that integrates blogging, my Flickr account and all sorts of other crazy business.

This is just a random picture I sent to flickr via Flock. Drag and drop baby!

This is pretty fun. I am not sure if it is going to be a regular part of my life, but that’s just because I am a little stubborn in the way I do things.

I also don’t like that OSX doesn’t spell check within this editor.
It also seems that it doesn’t handle em dashes very well. Which is what the “— in the link is supposed to be.

Does anybody have any info on this image? I searched the parent domain for clues and nothing.

Maybe we will find out in the next few days?

Time Calculator

Here is a pretty useful time calculator by American Express. (scroll to the bottom of the page) It is useful to see what time is the best time to call loved ones overseas or if you want to know if the jerk that sent you the wrong earphones from in China (but is actually in Australia, I ask you, “WTF?”) has had time to respond to your angry email.

Nettwerk Deserves Your Praise

A few months ago I wrote Nettwerk a letter telling them how much I appreciated and respected the way they took on the defense costs of the Gruebel family in their lawsuit brought against them by the RIAA. This was there response.

Hi Mason,

Thank you so much for your support of Nettwerk in our backing of the Gruebel family. Your message is very important to us, as it confirms that we are truly acting on behalf of music fans! It is our belief that the RIAA’s litigation policy has no upside: it chases fans even further underground and undermines the importance of file sharers. More importantly – litigation is destructive and ruins lives.

We invite you to explore our website:http://www.savethemusicfan.com to further show your support and to share your thoughts on this matter.

Sincerely,

Christina, on behalf of The Nettwerk Music Group

I encourage everyone to go out an buy a Nettwerk release of some sort, any label that is willing to support us like this deserves it right back. Here is a little interview with CEO, Terry McBride.

At the time of this posting, savethemusicfan.com was down, so I don’t know what is actually there.

At Daring Fireball there is a little article confirming my reasons for thinking that Think Secret is absolute garbage. If I want Apple rumors, I read AppleInsider, who seem to have more reliable sources and more strict editorial standards.
