Envy – Insomniac Doze

I don’t normally go for metal, but this I like this. It’s very mellow in parts and sort of melancholy. The screaming vocals convey something closer to sadness then anger, and it actually feels like honest, complex emotion and not cartoonish nu-metal or emo.

From Amazon:

In 1991, a group of Japanese teenagers formed an uncompromising thrash band, spitting two-minute blasts of indecipherable terror for anyone who could stand the physical and emotional damage it inflicted. Fifteen years later, punk’s corpse has been cannibalized to the bone and Envy has irreparably blurred the lines dividing the various factions of hardcore. Still terrifyingly sincere, their songs are now life-affirming, triumphant portraits for anyone strong-willed enough to withstand the emotional epiphanies they inspire.

    Well, it isn’t awful.
Kind of epic and anthemic for me. You might like Emperor as well, or Red Sparrowes.
I’m kinda more of the less-is-more and record it on a ghetto blaster black metal like Darkthrone or Beherit.
Actually, the more I listen the more I think the Red Sparrowe recommendation is dead on. They’re a friend’s husbands’ band from LA. Hardcore guys who liked Godspeed alot and play with films backing them now.

    I like the epic-osity.

I always kind of liked Godspeed, but it didn’t have enough humanity in it for me.

I’ll have to check up on Red Sparrowe.
