There have got to be a thousand more useful ways for me to spend my money, but the other day I bought myself a new iPod. I had one before, one that E sold to me for a pittance which I then promptly dropped and broke. Good work. Not wanting to repeat my mistakes I am now looking for a case to protect the new one. eBay has proven to be a waste of time, lacking anything of quality or character. Lots and lots of third rate silicon shells to make it look like a sex toy, shitty leather things that look like they should be on sale at Stitches and aluminum crap that will probably scratch the shit out of the thing.

Many wasted hours on Google have given me these contenders:
- Moshi offers a nice one, but not enough shock protection if I drop it.
- Fredflare is selling an Incase one that looks like a cassette tape, and comes with a cute model.
- The Das Blau Versa is very nice, I am specifically partial to the Momiji, but it is $100 after taxes. Almost twice what I want to spend. I have a feeling I am eventually going to be swayed if I keep going back to the website.

- My true favorite is the Chocolate/Rust 5G Wallet by ACME, but it too is out of my price range.

Still haven’t decided, I guess I am stuck with the velour envelope that came with it for now.

Other things I have found in my searches…

Manybooks offers many books for free in iPod notes format. (amongst others) You may not want to load many books onto your iPod at one time though, because every time you want to read one, you have to load all of them into memory. Lame.

MyPodSack sounds dirty, but it really isn’t. It is a funny little dock that looks like a beanbag chair. Cute.

Podtropolis. Actually found by E, as usual, it is a great place to get torrents of iPod ready video files. Look to be pretty useful, although season one of The Office seemed to be done wrong, because the iPod won’t accept them. I am currently re-encoding them.

Video Podcasts are pretty kick ass too. I have subscribed to a few including Coolhunting, Happy Tree Friends, Vintage ToonCast and il Luster‘s animation podcast. hmm… while doing searches for the links in this paragraph I see that the Suicide Girls have a video podcast too. Sign me up.

Last but not least, here is the video for Planet Earth by Duran Duran. Simply because after watching it, I have decided that it is my favorite music video ever. Check out that wicked use of matte painting.

Manybooks.net also has audiobooks – they’re computer-generated, but not bad quality. For real voices, check out Project Gutenberg’s selection of free audiobooks:

    Hi there….

Just a quick “fyi”. the Momiji runs at about 60 dollars, plus shipping…if you are outside NY, no sales tax will be added…;-)

    Cheers,

Yeah, what I meant was shipping… not taxes like I said.

Shipping to Canada is around twenty, if I remember correctly and then exchange on that.
