I was very skeptical of this movie when Alison brought it home. It looked a little too heartwarming to be any good. I like it when I am proved wrong – sometimes.
Shot on DV, has very gritty feel. Unfortunately the realism is lost on some over-the-top performances, specificly Sean Hayes as Wayne. Most of the movie was shot in two sets, a tiny apartment building and a car. I liked how shooting on DV allowed them to use these small sets.
Kate Holmes shows she doesn’t need to be cast as the “good little girl” in this, though they could have found someone a little rougher around the edges. Oddly (or not so oddly) enough they airbrush the hell out of her in the promo material.
Anybody know what happened to Die Puny Humans?
Apparently the iPod shuffle has better audio fidelity than the bigger iPods.
In order to clarify my position to anyone that would care to quote this site, I have published it under a Creative Commons licence. You can see the link in the sidebar. This lets people know that if they want to republish for free, go ahead, but credit me; if they want to republish commercially, they best be axing my permission.
Bill Gates let us know that, unbeknownst to us, we who choose to publish under this licence are “communists”. I thought I was just being clear on my stance. This caused many posts on BoingBoing, and one fella took it upon himself to make t-shirts. Mine just came in the mail and it is beautiful. Well made and designed, and very reasonably priced I might add. If you are CC inclined you should get one yourself.
Thanks to Kim for forwarding me this.
I also thank Ann Coulter for allowing myself and the rest of us Canadians for “Allowing” us to “exist”. My god, I have met Fascists that have more central views than this bitch. Nowhere on the site does it say who it is sparing with Coulter, but he seems like an interesting guy. Any one know who he is?
And can anyone tell me the appeal of that cockbite Carlson? He would just love to eat Dennis Miller’s faeces, wouldn’t he?

Not to be out done by Eric and his snazzy Flashcube.org cafepress shop, I have done the exact same thing. I don’t really believe that anyone is going to order this crap, but it did kill a couple hours where I could have been doing something constructive.
Considering the amount of pro-Apple sentiment I have been spouting lately, it may seem that I am denying that they have been total assholes lately. The truth is, I am more likely to agree with this guy about these actions. I just don’t think I have anything to say that hasn’t been said already.
Dark dark dark. This one from Miyazaki is the closest to my idea of “anime” that he has done.
Why is this named after such a small character in the movie? I would have called it Prince Ashitaka. I think it might have something to do with the source material. Japanese legend? fairytail?
Overriding theme; humans and nature living together in balance. Yin-yang very strong throughout, embodied in Ashitaka, who never takes a side in the war between them. Complex theme and moral similar to the anti-greed message in Spirited Away, but much more obvious.
Watched in Japanese with subtitles. Will try dubbed version some time.
In the movie “The Kid Stays in the Picture”, someone, (main character?) says that this movie “Is LA” Does that mean that
-the good guy doesn’t win in LA?
-LA is cruel?
-the underbelly of LA can’t be exposed without consequences?
-all of the above?
Long shots with no cuts. Polanski must be a total dick to work with. Maybe the actors like being challenged.
The colours used in the film are the same as the cover. Yellows and browns. Makes the timeframe seem authentic. Probably due mainly to our perseptions of old things as yellowing, rather than it actually being true to life.
Nicholson isn’t a creep in this one. (not that I don’t like a creepy Jack)
Need to see “The Two Jakes” (sequel)
There will be a change in direction for my movie and music reviews. Rather than try and sound like I know what I am talking about when I write “reviews” here, they will be more a reference for myself so I can go back and read about my first impressions and so I can track the movies I watch in a year. On subsiquent viewings/listenings the enties will be appended to reflect changing thoughts and such.
What you can expect: Very biased entries, full of spoilers and references that only I will understand. Oh, and a lot of point form.
Why here? This is the easiest way I can create a database that is accessable from anywhere and won’t get lost if my hard-drive goes down again. Also, I like the comments.
You said.
