The Common Merlion

A few weeks ago I created a logo for myself to accompany an endeavor I am embarking on with two friends of mine. The logo was of what I coined a Merlion. It was to go on my business cards, and t-shirts and various other goofyness I came up with. Unbeknownst to me, the Merlion is a symbol for the people of Singapore, a city I have no connection with, other than that my cousin and his lovely wife live there. I guess I should have ran a google search for it, I would not be in the dilemma I am in now. So I ask my readers to give me their opinions of my use of the Merlion, and I offer these pictures for you to compare the two…

    Don’t worry about it Mason this happened to me once. In November of 2001, Esquire magazine featured a 9.11 illustration that looked exactly like my four foot x six foot graphite drawing I did a month previously.

    As a self-professed fan of the merlion, (not to mention the bag of merlion), I say “Fuck Singapore” unless they too have a bag of merlion. Which I bet they don’t.

    I was gonna rite you and tell you about seeing a merlion carved into a bar out here….but, as it was a bar, I was drunk…and, well i can’t tell now if it was a real memory or a drunken dream.
    Should I see the carving again, not in hypnagogic space, and am sober enough to take a photo, I’ll send it to you.
    Now, you might not want to fuck with Signapore, what with the caning and all…

    I have gotten one vote telling me that my use is unacceptable. I know who each of the other “fine” votes are, but this dissenting vote is interesting. I wish they had commented here, but no luck.

    I was actually hoping that someone would make available a contrary view, but since there is no comment here, I can only deduce that the are just trying to be a shit.
